Described below is a modified Extender by Naude (see US Pat. #8,540,596). Using this Extender, the Transmission Ratio of a CVT that has a 4:1 Transmission Ratio can be extended to 64:1 using a 2-gear ratio gearbox (see Figures 1 to 8 below).
Using this Extender an electric motor or engine can be operated at its maximum efficiency rpm or maximum power rpm. And the torque required for acceleration from stand-still can be increased 64 times; with the CVT not subjected to the increased torque, due to gearing at the output of the Extender.
A toothed CVT inspired by Naude will be described on this website. This CVT transmits torque better than current friction CVT’s; since it has no clamping losses, wedging losses, slippage wear.
